Some weeks back I did a feature on Kenyan jewellery designer, Gladys Macharia’s collaboration with Urbanara, as one of three winners of the Kenya-based ‘African Designers for Tomorrow‘ award. Another winner of competition was Doreen Mashika, who today as part of the award sees the launch of her covetable capsule collection, Doreen Mashika for eBay, Germany, produced in collaboration with online platform.

Based in Zanzibar just of the coast of Tanzania, Doreen is one of the continent’s leading fashion, jewellery and accessory designers, her eponymous brand known for its contemporary twist on traditional techniques and details. Doreen Mashika for eBay is a colourful and eye-catching 13 piece capsule fashion, jewellery and accessory collection. The limited-edition collection comprises a tassel chain necklace, a choker, three bracelets, a Zebra stripe clutch bag, jumpsuit, maxi dress, and blouse all handmade in Kenya. The jewellery and clutch bags are characterised by the use of tiny colourful glass seed beads, making up the tassels and bracelet bands. The collection is exclusive to eBay Germany.

The African Designers for Tomorrow award is an initiative of FA254, a pioneering social initiative based in Kenya that aims to enhance the development of fashion industries in Africa. The social enterprise was established by Kenyan-born model, Waridi Schrobsdorff.
