Le BHV Marais Paris Celebrates South African Art and Design
Paris is having a love affair with all things contemporary Africa design, fashion, culture, and lifestyle. First is was Africa as the guest of honour at the Paris Art Fair held in March/April, then Africa Now at the Galeries Lafayette shopping destination, and now the iconic department store Le BHV Marais in the heart of the historic and trendy Marais district, which dedicates almost two months to celebrating contemporary South African art and design and culture.
Produced by ArtLogic and curated by This is Cape Town, South Africa x Le BVH features a shopping experience of some of South Africa’s premier design-led brands among them: Laduma, laLesso, Melodie Abad, Pichulick, Thalia Strate, Ashanti, Vogel and Mia Melange. In addition to an exhibition of contemporary South African art and design curated by Jean Philippe Aka, art dealer and founder and editor of the Africa Art Market Report magazine.
Displayed in the BHV Marais Observatory, Aka’s selections showcase the vibrancy and dynamism of contemporary South African artists both well-known and emerging, whose work reflects the diversity of the country’s culture, and alongside them select pieces from artists from other African countries.
South Africa x Le BVH Marais runs from the 9th June – 31st July 2017.
