Following a successful debut in 2014, 25 February to 1 March 2015 sees the 2nd GUILD Design Fair in Cape Town. GUILD is the premier African-based international design fair that brings together the work of leading African and internal designers and was conceived by Southern Guild, a South African-based platform that showcases the very best in Southern African design talent.

Founded by Trevyn and Julian McGowan Southern Guild has become a leading supporter of design-driven economic growth, and exhibits contemporary South African design at its Cape Town gallery and at international events and leading global fairs like Design Miami, Collective and Design Days Dubai. Through other pioneering initiatives such as GUILD, Southern Guild is helping to put the spotlight on design not only from South Africa, but from across the continent. As Trevyn says,
“Our focus is to tell a new story of Africa, to bring fresh, provoking, unexpected work to the world’s stage and to encourage our designers to investigate their own identities.”

Through GUILD Trevyn and Julian bring some of the world’s most interesting and important international galleries, designers, and curators to South Africa, and have been instrumental in fostering global design collaborations between international and African designers to create bespoke, limited edition work that will show exclusively at GUILD. Among these are:
- LA-based The Haas Brothers and South Africa’s Monkeybiz beading company
- Amsterdam-based designer Frederik Molenschot and Gone Rural Swaziland
- Peter Mabeo from Botswana and South African conceptual designer Porky Hefer
- Beirut’s the Massod siblings with Cape Town-based ceramicist Andile Dyalvane and Bronze Age Foundry

Alongside the GUILD Design Fair, Southern Guild is also bringing the work of acclaimed British contemporary artist Jessica Zoob to South Africa for the first time in a partnership with London Connoisseur. Entitled ‘Passion and the Still Life’, Jessica’s Passion collection is paired with a curated selection of ceramics, sculpture, glass, and other objects by South African designers, including work from Imiso Ceramics, Atang Tshikare, Dokter and Misses and Bronze Age Foundry. The exhibition will runs from 24 February until April 2015 at the Southern Guild gallery in Woodstock, Cape Town.
