Africa Utopia
Africa Utopia returns to London’s Southbank Centre this week. Taking place over four days from Thursday 11 September 2014 – Sunday 14 September 2014, the festival is a celebration of arts and culture from Africa and the African Diaspora. From concerts to art installations the festival looks at how African art and ideas changing the world for the better, enabling visitors to explore areas including culture, community, technology, fashion, sustainability, and ethical wealth creation. There will also be the Africa Utopia Food Market, and Market Place offering art, homeware, fashion, and accessories to purchase.
Highlights include:
Africa Calling, a showcase of contemporary design by southern African and UK-based designers curated by Kathy Shenoy.
Acoustic Fabrics by Yemi Awosile and featuring a soundscape by Lagos-based artist Emeka Ogboh, an interactive display of textiles that give form to sound and explores the visceral connection between the way a piece of cloth is constructed and the means by which technology is crafted.
Africa On the Catwalk featuring Sindiso Khumalo (South Africa/UK), Bestow Elan (Ghana/UK), SOBOYE (Nigeria/UK), AAKS (Ghana), Haus of Hercules (Nigeria/UK) and Mifani Shoes (Ghana/UK).
