Bouchra Boudoua Ceramics Upholding the Age-Old Techniques of Moroccan Craftsmanship
Artist and designer Bouchra Boudoua is upholding the age-old techniques of Moroccan craftsmanship with her patterned ceramic collections. Blending craft and design Bouchra draws inspiration from Morocco’s traditional pottery heritage reinterpreting the patterns, and forms for contemporary living.
Bouchra travels the country taking in the rituals of daily life and translating these inspirations into her collections. Inspiration also comes from the distinctive black and white geometric patterns of Mali’s Bogolan textiles, which can be seen in her Bogolan collection.
Dividing her time between Marrakech and Casablanca Bouchra’s decorative and functional ceramics are produced in collaboration with local potters in Marrakech where her studio is based. Each piece is handmade using terracotta clay, and then hand painted with simple striking patterns using non-toxic glazes.
Bouchra’s ceramics have caught the attention of designers, hoteliers and retailers such as Christian Dior and El Fenn for whom she has created bespoke collections.
