I was watching a recent episode of CNN’s Inside Africa when I saw a profile on young Nigerian entrepreneur Jennifer Okpapi and the cooking classes she runs in Tottenham, North London based on her love for African food.

Established in 2009 Jennifer sought to bring the delicious and diverse tastes found across the continent to western palates and along with her team delivers a range of classes in a relaxed fun environment. Amidst modern light and airy surroundings, attendees get to try their hand at producing dishes from North African Tagines to Ghanaian Tatale and South African Bobotie to West African Benachin; all made using authentic and fresh ingredients. Current classes on offer include ‘A Taste of Nigeria’, ‘A Taste of Ghana’ and ‘Spicing up Seafood’ which features recipes from Morocco, Tanzania, Ghana and Congo. All skill levels are welcome and bespoke classes are available making it ideal for getting together with friends or sharing some couple time. At the end of the day, attendees receive an Akhaya goodie bag filled with recipes and some of the ingredients needed to recreate the dishes at home and all food made on the day is packaged for you to take home and enjoy.

Jennifer also produces a range of spice blends to help you continue to recreate some of the dishes or experiment with making up some of your own African inspired ones. The spice blends are handmade using the finest organic and fairtrade ingredients.
