Ethnik by T.O. is a stylish range of footwear and fashion accessories made with beautifully woven Aso Oke, a traditional Yoruba textile. The collection, launched in 2015, is the brainchild of photographer and designer Tunde Olowabi, who by tapping into his heritage is adding to the diverse creative voices shaping contemporary African design

The brilliant, jewel-like colours of the fabrics are turned into eye-catching footwear for both men and women, as well as complementary roomy totes. And, the hand-woven nature of the fabrics means each product is slightly different from the other. Tunde’s interest in working with Aso Oke came whilst researching traditional Nigerian headgear, and upon discovering the fabric to be one the few remaining locally made fabrics began to further explore its significance in culture and the methods of production on traditional looms, finding it to be a manual, time-consuming process in which the utmost attention to detail is made.
