Entitled ‘ Camagu’ which loosely translates from Xhosa to express gratitude along the lines of ‘I am grateful’ the exhibition will include a new body of work ranging from ceramic screens, lighting, shelving and the oversized vessels that Andile is known for, all decorated with his signature surface designs and patterns that reference traditional African scarification customs.

I’ve always wanted to do a solo show, creating works I’d only ever dreamed of producing, and this show is it… It’s been my chance to realise designs that would otherwise have remained in my sketchbooks. So camagu references my gratitude. – Andile Dyalvane

Andile, a co-founder of the dynamic Cape Town ceramic studio, Imiso Ceramics, was introduced to Friedman Benda through Southern Guild, a collectible design gallery also in Cape Town that has been representing his work since 2008. Friedman Benda is one of the world’s leading design galleries and for Andile, exhibiting here is a great achievement, a recognition of growth in becoming an important contributor to global design and ceramics, and in the process positively impacting the South African design industry, and indeed African design as a whole.
