100% Design South Africa [South Africa]
August heralds the start of the global design exhibition season, which runs for several months. In Johannesburg 100% Design South Africa, billed as the go-to interior design show for all things African design will run from the 5th-9th August. Now in its third year 100% Design South Africa will channel continental African cool with its abundance of contemporary ‘Chic Afrique’ content.
Bold patterns, vivid colours, and geometric shapes, evoking elements of traditional African masks, will infuse 100% Design South Africa 2016 with a sophisticated Afro-optimistic spirit. The exhibition will see four installations guided by the compass directions – North, South, East and West – representing the four corners of the continent.
Each region has a unique spirit, and the stands reflect that in representational colours and decor schemes. – Cathy O’Clery, Programme Director
The exhibition will also present the latest covetable designs of some of Africa’s leading designers who are making their mark on the global stage, including Dokter and Misses, Ronel Jordaan, Atang Tshikare (who presents a new collaboration with Robin Sprong), Egg Designs and Willowlamp. In a show packed with vibrant design inspiration 100% Design South Africa will also incorporate the travelling exhibition, Picture Africa, which you can read about in a previous Atelier Fifty-Five feature.
Designers, photographers, and fashion designers from across the continent featured in Picture Africa include Aissata Namoko, Bead Design Studio, and Boubacar Doumbia of Le Ndomo textile workshop, Phyllis Galembo, Thandiwe Muriu, Ed Suter, Laduma Nxgoloko, Marianne Fassler, and Yevu.
100% Design South Africa runs from the 5-9 August 2016
