Riad Noir D’Ivoire [Morocco]

Tucked away down an unassuming alleyway in the Bab Doukkala quarter of the Marrakech Medina you will find Riad Noir D’Ivoire, a luxurious and romantic boutique hotel that will surprise and entice from the moment you arrive, making it the perfect romantic getaway. Leave the hustle and bustle of the souk behind as you enter through a wooden door emerging into the spacious courtyard of an elegantly restored traditional Moroccan riad. Riad Noir D’Ivoire is a haven in the city, a place whose intimate setting exudes romance and laid-back sophistication. Romantic getaways should be about spoiling yourself and your beloved, and the Riad allows you to forget all sense of time lazying the day away on the roof terrace, lounging by the pool in Riad’s second courtyard or enjoy a couple’s pampering session in the hammam.

Decorated with Moroccan handicrafts and various objects collected on the owner’s travels, exquisite detailing is prevalent throughout the Riad, from luxuriously tasselled drapes held back with ornamental silver tie backs to intricately carved wooden chairs gracing the living areas and wrought ironwork around the balconies. The hotel has just nine elegantly appointed rooms, each individually furnished and named after African wildlife. Seven of the rooms are suites, each with a fireplace and some with huge baths big enough for two and balconies overlooking the pool or courtyard, perfect for leisurely breakfasts.

Situated around the pool are the three opulent master suites; Panther, Cheetah, and Zebra, which have private roof terraces offering a jacuzzi, sunbeds where you can sleep under the stars if it’s warm and outdoor dining. I adore the decor of the Zebra Suite, mixing contemporary with traditional for a very chic look. If you are staying in a suite be sure to ask for your bath to be drawn and dressed; it will be strewn with rose petals, surrounded by candles and scented with oils; guaranteed to set the mood.

Dusk brings seductively lit courtyards where guests can dine or join others for a drink in the bar, whilst listening to the jazzy notes from the baby grand. Private dining in your room is available upon request, in addition to some wonderful local restaurants close to the Riad, that is if you can bear to tear yourself away; and staff are on hand 24hrs a day to attend to your requirements.

…a very self-indulgent chic escape
