A Bright and Airy Contemporary Designer Home in Ghana
Described on Airbnb as being a unique designer oasis the bright and airy home of Nana Amu is no ordinary holiday rental. Situated in Accra, Ghana Nana’s home offers an open plan living dining kitchen space, relaxing bedroom with en suite, and a lush private garden. Previous guest guest reviews have described it as blending the style, elegance, and service of a 5 star boutique hotel with the warmth and authenticity of a private home.
This stylish home belongs to local resident and self taught interior design Nana Amu who in an interview with the fashion blog African Prints in Fashion shares that having spent a couple of decades teaching now consults in real estate, interior design and decoration. The home is inspired by Nana’s multi-cultural upbringing, global travels, and a creative curiosity that has seen her try her hand at various pursuits including jewellery design, dressmaking, painting, and styling.
For this property Nana brought her love of style, simplicity, and bringing the outdoors in, embracing nature to create a relaxed Zen-like feel. She has achieved this through the use of natural wood finishings, understated background colours in furniture and flooring, and large picture windows to flood the place with light and frame the lush outdoor greenery, making it a part of the interior space.
The neutral interior is enlivened with pops of bright colour courtesy of block colour and African print textiles used in cushions and pouffes, coloured decorative glassware and ceramics, tastefully selected artwork that adorns the walls, patterned textiles, and vibrant floral arrangements. Nana also references her Ghanaian and West African heritage throughout the space with the inclusion of traditional sculpture, artefacts, and textiles.
The result is an inspiring tranquil contemporary oasis that reflects the owner’s love of design.
