Inspired by the city she now calls home, textile designer Julie Kouamo’s latest collection; entitled Optic pays homage to London’s striking architecture viewed from behind the lens. The exclusive collection of scatter cushions produced in collaboration with Made.com features photographic, digitally printed images highlighting the often-unseen corners of the city. Optic follows on from her first photographic collection, ‘Brooklyn Bridge’.

Julie who founded her eponymous label in 2011 is the daughter of a bridge and road engineer, and as such has always had a sentimental attachment to industrial architecture. Whilst her designs mainly centre on screen-printing and hand-drawing techniques, she has always been passionate about photography, drawn to its way of preserving memories, and uses this to create the sense of nostalgia that pervades her work. My previous feature on Julie Kouamo gives more insight into the designer and her influences.

Based in Notting Hill London, Made.com offers original bespoke and designer furniture and interior accessories direct from the manufacturer, and for Julie Kouamo, collaborating with Made.com signals a new and exciting chapter, bringing her designs to a new audience.
