The design of the Mhondoro Game Lodge is sympathetic to the tranquil bushveld surrounding it. The main feature is a waterhole that stands out to the front of the lodge, which the owners maximised by building an animal viewing hide around it, accessed by a lit underground corridor leading from the Main Lodge. This provides guests with the unique opportunity to view the animals and landscape up close at their leisure day or night, without ever having to leave the lodge.

Offering guests the luxurious comforts of a home away from home the interior design of the Mhondoro Game Lodge is a showcase of European and African design that instills a sense of the environment outside through the use of raw materials and natural textures in a soothing, warm palette of earth tones.

“With a mixture of local and European design, our interiors match organic architecture to create a feeling of home away from home in the South African bush,” says Myriam Vogel

Furniture adorning the interior spaces comes courtesy of some leading names in contemporary South African furniture and product design. Pieces include a bespoke wooden table from Cape Town’s Pierre Cronje, several award-winning furniture designs by Cape Town designer Vogel including the brand’s signature wooden Nguni head coat hooks. Iconic kudu and buffalo sculptural lights by Cape Town’s Anthea and Michael Methven hang over the fireplace, the lampshades made from recycled products, giving off a warm, low lighting glow that enhances the calm and home-like feeling within the Main Lodge.
