I always get a sense of nostalgia when viewing Stoned Cherrie’s creations. Drawing on the past to fashion the future; retro styling with inspiration taken from 1950s Covergirls to fiery Shebeen queens taps into the creativity and energy of modern South Africa giving the brand a funky urban edge – a style the company defines as ‘Afro-urban’. Launched by actress, writer and entrepreneur Nkhensani Nkosi in 2000, the multiple award-winning label is a staple of the African catwalks and has become one of Africa’s most recognised fashion labels. Stoned Cherrie is about freedom and self-expression, playing their part in working towards the collective shaping of a new vision for Africa.

The highly-wearable designs are sassy and feminine, characterised by bursts of vivid colour, bold graphics and luxurious textures with a generous sprinkling of embellishment added for good measure. In adhering to its connection to the past, Stoned Cherrie aims to utilise and preserve its heritage found in traditional artisan skills which includes crochet, embroidery and intricate beading.
