Can you believe, the New Year is not so new anymore and today is already the 1st of Feb!
Keeping busy has made the time fly by, however, the combined effects of a sudden cold snap and central heating on a full blast is causing me to feel extremely sluggish making it time for rejuvenation; and what better than to head to the spa for a few hours of self-indulgent me time. London has no shortage of spa spots to choose from, but I’m looking to African inspiration. In early September 2011 Africology, brought its brand of natural holistic treatments to the UK, with the opening of a luxury spa in partnership with Bloww, a leading hair salon located in London’s West End. Whilst working in the area I had passed the ultra-modern Salon several times when seeking less congested pavements and at the time didn’t know it was hiding an oasis of calm within its depths.

The Africology Urban Spa at Bloww is the place for those looking to be transported, if only for a few hours to an African take on pampering, tranquility, and relaxation amid luxurious surroundings. Leave the craziness of Regent Street behind as you descend below the main Salon to let the warm browns and creams, highlighted with orangey rusts, in the Spa’s interior space draw you in. The Spa offers clients a range of enticingly titled treatments such as; ‘the African Goddess Facial’, which is designed to celebrate the Goddess within; and ‘the Majestic Awakening Massage’ which offers a sensory experience through naturally fragrant essential oils whilst relieving tension and stress; all delivered by a team of well-trained therapists who can also create a bespoke treatment for you to suit your needs. One treatment, in particular, that is fascinating a lot of people is ‘the African Potato Body Experience’ which granted doesn’t sound particularly glamorous but is a treatment that involves exfoliation and warm compresses to purify and prepare the skin before applying an African potato and Marula oil body wrap to help soften, soothe and hydrate the skin, during which a foot and scalp massage heightens the state of relaxation, and to finish the body is massaged with conditioning Marula oil which is known to hold in moisture; all this to the sounds of African music playing the background. The African potato is an inedible root that is said to balance the immune system and keep it regulated.
