South African Art and Design Takes Centre Stage at Xigera Safari Lodge, Botswana

Xigera Safari Lodge officially opened its doors in January, welcoming guests into a space where South African design takes centre stage. Situated on the western edge of the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Xigera offers

Taking cues from the natural landscape of the Delta, Xigera’s interiors were designed by Toni Tollman in collaboration with Southern Guild to bring together an exceptional collection of bespoke art and craft pieces by some of Africa’s finest makers. Design work includes wooden benches and chairs by Adam Birch, ceramics by Andile Dyalvane, Ardmore, and Madoda Fani, Porky Hefer’s playful and functional giant handwoven nests, and sculptural fire pits by blacksmith Conrad Hicks. Xigera owners have created a living gallery of art and design that will be added as time goes on.

Nestled under a canopy of indignous trees Xigera Lodge offers spectacular views of the Delta and floodplains that make up the environment. 12 suites accomodate up to 24 guests alongside relaxing lounges, a wellness spa, and a curated collection of books, to peruse at their leisure. There is also an on-site shop that spotlights work by some of the designers who have contributed to the Xigera aesthetic.
