IFI Congress and African Design and Culture Festival Nigeria

African Culture Design Festival 2017 Design Pavilion Sarya Jamal

 

Lagos, Nigeria’s bustling dynamic capital plays host to the African Culture and Design Festival (ACDF), a four-day cultural extravaganza that is part of a series of activities organised for the International Federation of Interior Designers and Architects (IFI) 28th Biennial Congress. The Congress prepares to welcome over 500 local and international delegates and features architect Sir David Adjaye as a keynote speaker, Kunlé Adeyemi and writer, culture critic, and educator, Carol Becker,

Showcasing the diversity of design across the continent under the theme ‘This is Africa’ the design pavilion brings together over 25 leading and emerging names in contemporary African design among them Hicham Lahlou, Studio Lani, Jomo Tariku, Banke Kuku. The design on display will encompass sculpture, lighting, ceramics, furniture, and textiles.

African Culture Design Festival 2017 Traditional Art Pavilion

 

Other pavilions include The Modern & Contemporary African Arts Pavilion, curated by Bisi Silva and is a showcase of paintings, photographs, video art, installations and sculpture from some of Africa’s leading modern and contemporary artists. The Traditional African Art Pavilion, curated by museum specialist Ronke Ashay, which showcases some of Africa’s most icon artworks among then sculpture, wooden doors, masks, and bronze statues. And the Video Installation curated by Azu Nwagbogu, which traces Nigeria’s progress in celebrating arts and culture.

The African Culture and Design Festival is organised by the Interior Designer’s Association of Nigeria (IDAN) curated by the organisations president, Titi Ogunfere, and assistant curator Blueprint Africa. Free to attend ACDF opens on the 9th and runs through to the 12th November.
