If, and I’m guessing that’s a big if, you have yet to put up and dress your Christmas tree, let these colourful hand-beaded baubles provide some decorative inspiration. The baubles are handmade by artisans in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa using tiny glass seed beads and 100% copper wire. Using a real hen’s egg as the base form, the artisans skilfully employ traditional Zulu beading techniques to create intricate patterns in a number of sparkling colourways. The eggs are also perfect for Easter tables or simply place in a glass bowl or vase for an eye-catching centrepiece. I came across the decorative eggs on Litema, a UK-based online home and personal accessories boutique that specialises in handcrafted products sourced from the African Continent. Litema seeks to celebrate craftsmanship, uniqueness, authenticity, and the fusion of tradition with modern design.
The festive season is upon us, and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a truly blessed New Year. I know I haven’t been at my best creating and uploading posts throughout the year, mainly due to time. The year has proved to be a mixed bag of opportunities, and disappointments; all taking my focus away from behind the screen. 2013 brought several occasions to meet with some of the designers featured throughout the blog over the past years; as well as with fellow bloggers, writers, and readers providing some memorable moments, and here’s hoping 2014 brings more. Until then.
