Raya’s Bold Fun Statement Gemstone Jewellery

While directing the home of Eva Sonaike for a magazine photoshoot the textile designer wore some fabulous statement earrings by Raya, a Nigerian contemporary jewellery brand. Drawn to the colours and style I headed online to find out more. Raya was founded in 2014 by fashion manufacturing graduate Ivie Omenai who spotted a gap for affordable high-quality jewellery made in Nigeria. 

Taking its name from Ivie’s younger sister Saraya, the brand’s The brand is all about bold, fun designs made using semi-precious stones in a dazzling array of colours, encased in a gold coloured metal setting. What makes Raya jewellery distinctive is their use of gemstones in their raw natural state rather than polishing and shaping them to perfection.

Each Raya design is produced in a limited quality, about 10 of each. This enables Ivie to keep things fresh and exciting by regularly releasing new collections or reworking the colour ways of existing one. Drawing inspiration from the vibrancy of her culture and her environment Ivie’s jewellery pieces are designed to complement the style of the women who wear them.  

The company has quickly established itself as one of Nigeria’s leading jewellery brands and has since extended its reach to an international clientele.
